Sakineh Mohammadi Ashanti, the Iranian woman sentenced to be stoned to death for adultery, will be hanged instead on Wednesday, according to the International Committee Against Stoning. Apparently, Iranian authorities have given the go-ahead for her execution, though they have not confirmed or denied the report. Iran is second only to China in the number of executions it carries out; in 2008, it executed 346 people.
