Iraqi Attack Kills Five Americans

HEROES

Deadliest single incident of 2011.

In 2011’s most deadly Iraqi attack yet, five Americans were killed in Baghdad on Monday. The U.S. military confirmed the deaths but did not release any details about the attack; reports indicate that several rockets hit an American base in the southeast section of the Iraqi capital. The attack was part of an overall wave of violence that also claimed 16 people throughout central Iraq. The casualties raise the number of American deaths in Iraq since 2003 to 4,456. About 46,000 U.S. soldiers remain there, nine months after the official end of military combat.
