A male athlete competing in the Chattanooga 70.3 Ironman competition went unconcious Sunday during the swimming part of the contest and was later pronounced dead at a hospital. The fatality has been confirmed by the public-relations director for Ironman but a name has not been released. “We are deeply saddened to confirm the death of one of our athletes participating in today’s IRONMAN 70.3 Chattanooga triathlon,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “Our condolences go out to the athlete's family and friends, whom we will continue to support.”
