ISIS claimed responsibility Thursday for a series of blasts at a news agency and a neighboring Shiite cultural center in Kabul that killed dozens of people. More than 40 people were reported dead and 30 wounded in at least three explosions, which went off during a panel discussion at the Tabian Social and Cultural Center. The blasts also hit the Afghan Voice news agency. “This gruesome attack underscores the dangers faced by Afghan civilians,” said Biraj Patnaik, Amnesty International’s South Asia director. “In one of the deadliest years on record, journalists and other civilians continue to be ruthlessly targeted by armed groups.”
