Iraqi officials warned on Wednesday that the city of Ramadi could fall into the hands of Islamic State militants within hours. Government troops were struggling to hold front lines against ISIS militants, who have been advancing in recent days, said Falih Essawi, deputy chief of the Anbar Provincial Council. Officials are urging Baghdad for more reinforcements and the U.S.-led coalition for air support. The city, about 70 miles west of Baghdad, has seen mounting clashes for months as ISIS seized control of surrounding areas.
