Extremist militants grabbed a Syrian military base on Sunday in an offensive that has killed hundreds since last week and gave ISIS effective control of Raqqa province, which borders Turkey. The Al-Tabqa air force base was taken after the Syrian army evacuated to regroup, according to state media. It was the last major military base in the province to be taken by the so-called Islamic State. Since the battle began Tuesday, more than 340 ISIS fighters and 170 government soldiers have been killed, according to a watchdog group.
