Violence has once again flared up between Israel and Palestinian militants. Days after Hamas declared that all militant groups in Gaza had agreed to a ceasefire, prompting Israel to reply that it would also refrain from further attacks, Gaza’s militant groups broke the truce on Wednesday morning, firing on Israeli towns and villages. Israel in turn launched airstrikes on the strip, killing at least 10 Palestinians. The U.N. special coordinator for the Middle East ordered a “complete halt to the firing of rockets from Gaza and a display of maximum restraint by Israel.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has so far ignored calls within the country to launch a full-scale military attack on Gaza.
