Israel has begun installing security cameras around the entrance of the Old City of Jerusalem, one of the holiest sites in the country. The move comes a week after officials also installed metal detectors at the entrance. The heightened security measures come amid increased violence targeting Israelis in the region, and are likely to trigger backlash from Palestinians. According to CNN, Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, has suspended communications and security efforts with Israel.
