Israel may attack Syria if its chemical weapons begin slipping into the wrong hands. Speaking to Israeli Army Radio, Vice Premier Silvan Shalom said that should Lebanon’s Hezbollah guerrillas or rebels obtain Syrian chemical weapons, “it would dramatically change the capabilities of those organizations.” He added that such a development “would require a different approach, including even preventative operations...this (chemical weapons transfer) must not happen.” Shalom also confirmed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had held a meeting with security chiefs last week to discuss the issue.
