J. Paul Getty III—whose kidnapping when he was 16 in Italy made headlines in the 1970s, died on February 5, it was reported Tuesday. A grandson of oil baron J. Paul Getty, Sr., Getty's captors had cut off his ear when his family initially refused to pay a $17 million ransom. Getty, 54, had been incapacitated since 1981 by a narcotics-induced stroke.
