Jackson Family Loses Negligence Suit

21-WEEK TRIAL

AEG will not have to pay any compensation.

After a 21-week trial and three days of deliberations, jurors reached a verdict Wednesday in the wrongful-death case of Michael Jackson. The late pop star's mother, Katherine Jackson, alleged that concert promoter AEG Live hired a Las Vegas doctor who administered a fatal dose of anesthetic to Jackson. The jury found that though AEG did indeed hire Conrad Murray, Murray was at the time not unfit to treat Jackson—therefore AEG is not liable and will not have to pay the Jackson family compensation. Murray is serving a two-year sentence for involuntary manslaughter.
