The parents of alleged school shooter Ethan Crumbley have been deemed fugitives after missing their Friday arraignment on involuntary manslaughter charges, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office confirmed to The Daily Beast.

Shannon Smith and Mariell Lehman, lawyers representing James and Jennifer Crumbley, previously told The Daily Beast their clients were not fleeing law enforcement. The U.S. Marshals, however, revealed Friday evening that they have adopted the case and that their “Detroit Fugitive Apprehension team is working in conjunction with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office on the search.”

The couple were last seen in a black 2021 Kia Seltos SUV with Michigan plates, according to the Sheriff's Office.
