Just one day after the International Whaling Commission voted that Japan's whaling program is illegal because it is not for research purposes, Japan announced it would carry on in the Antarctic next year anyway. Japan had claimed its yearly hunt is just for research, but the meat from the dead whales is sold commercially in the country. Earlier this year, an International Court of Justice had ruled that Japan's hunt was not scientific in nature which forced the country to halt its 2014-2015 hunt in the Southern Ocean. "We are now carrying out preparations for a new plan for scientific whaling to resume in the 2015/2016 year," Japanese Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga announced.
