Japanese Journalist's Passport Seized

For trying to travel to Syria.

A journalist attempted to travel to Syria has had his passport seized by Japan. This is the first time Tokyo has made such a move, and comes in the aftermath of the brutal murders of two Japanese hostages. The passport belonged to 58-year-old freelance photographer Yuchi Sugimoto who was planning to cover refugee camps. He said he had covered conflict zones in Iraq and Syria before and had not planned to enter areas controlled by ISIS.
