Actor Jared Leto is reportedly set to return as the Joker in an upcoming Warner Bros. spin-off film centered on his portrayal of the DC Comics villain in 2016’s Suicide Squad. Sources cited by Variety on Tuesday said the actor will star in and produce the film, about which plot details are currently unknown. Leto and the film studio are expected to begin searching for a writer in the near future, according to the report. It was not immediately clear when production would begin. Warner Bros. is reportedly seeking to build on several characters from Suicide Squad with future installments, having already announced that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn would be getting her own standalone film. A sequel to Suicide Squad is also due to begin filming at some point next year.
