Jennifer Lopez Reportedly Dating Alex Rodriguez
The last time she dated a huge NYC celeb it didn’t go so well (Diddy, nightclub, guns). Can J.Lo find love with her alleged new boyfriend, former Yankees super-slugger A-Rod?
For those of us old enough to remember ‘Bennifer’ (Mark One)—the collective noun for Ben Affleck and Jenifer Lopez that some would argue started the modern day obsession for conjugal celebrity portemanteau terms—comes happy news; Jennifer Lopez is now dating Yankees icon Alex Rodriguez.
Page Six quotes a source as telling the column that the couple have “so much in common” and have been “seeing each other.”
This leads Page Six—which claims to have confirmed the news despite the absence of an official comment from their reps—to speculate, inevitably, on whether they should be known as J-Rod or A.Lo (or J.Rod, we might add).
Rodriguez, 41, was, Page Six claims, recently backstage at one of J.Lo’s Las Vegas gigs during her “All I Have” residency at Planet Hollywood, while she liked an Instagram image that Rodriguez posted on Wednesday announcing he’d joined Fox Sports as a full-time baseball analyst, so, you know, it must be love.
A source told Page Six of the alleged new power couple, “They have been seeing each other for a few months—and were together in L.A. this past weekend.”
The insider added: “They are really into each other because they have so much in common—from their Latin roots, to their love of New York, and their kids.”
Lopez—who recently told Trevor Noah that rumors she was dating rapper Drake were wide of the mark and that that the two had just “hung out”—has twins with her ex-husband Marc Anthony and has been married a total of three times.
A-Rod has two daughters, Natasha, 12, and Ella, 8, with his ex-wife, Cynthia Scurtis.
Lopez’s last big relationship with a super-high-profile New York celebrity didn’t, of course, end too well.
Back in December 1999, J.Lo was dating Sean Combs when a fight broke out at a midtown nightclub and shots were fired.
Combs and Lopez were arrested fleeing the scene in an SUV with a gun in the trunk. J.Lo was quickly cleared of involvement, and although Combs was eventually cleared of any crime in court, the case created enough of a bad smell that Combs changed his name from Puff Daddy to Diddy to try and put the events behind him.
A-Rod, who has been linked to Madonna, Kate Hudson, and Cameron Diaz among others—recently broke up with Anne Wojcicki, tech CEO and the ex-wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin.
Reps for the stars did not comment to Page Six.
