Our long national nightmare is over. After months of sometimes-strained negotiations, Derek Jeter and the New York Yankees have come to an agreement. The star shortstop will finalize a deal today paying him between $15 million and $17 million per year for three years, with an option for a fourth year, depending on what happens in the preceding three. Jeter had hoped to get a four- or five-year deal, at $23 million per year, but Yankees made it clear they weren’t interested. Mariano Rivera, the team’s closer, also signed a two-year deal for around $30 million.
