Jets Scrambled to Escort Canadian Flight

DEVELOPING

Unspecified security threat on board.

Two CF18 Hornet fighter jets were dispatched to intercept a Cathay-Pacific flight bound for Vancouver Saturday, after receiving an unspecified security threat aboard the plane. "In this case only as a precaution did we intercept and escort the aircraft until it landed safely," said a spokesman with the Canadian NORAD Region headquarters. The flight, which originated in Hong Kong, landed at 1:40 p.m. local time, but reports say passengers are still on board the aircraft, which has been towed away from the terminal. Officials said police are investigating an incident involving the flight, but offered no details.
