Jimmy Kimmel has a theory for why President Trump’s been so low-profile this week.
“[Trump’s] said to be furious,” Kimmel said in his Wednesday monologue. He’d covered how DOGE’s Elon Musk turned on Trump this week, calling his Big Beautiful Bill an “abomination.”
Musk amped up the attacks on the bill Wednesday, vowing to help “fire all politicians” who voted for it.
Although Trump’s been largely quiet in response, Kimmel argued that this is the most harrowing sign of all.
“Very unlike [Trump] to show restraint, so this must be serious,” Kimmel said.
He added, “I mean, between Elon and Melania, Trump now has two foreigners who won’t sleep with him.”
Kimmel further emphasized just how unusual Trump’s quiet behavior lately has been: “He hasn’t punched back. In fact, he kind of disappeared today.”
Kimmel continued, “Usually he’s got reporters in the Oval Office, he’s out yelling on the helipad. He had none of that today. No executive orders, no angry posts about Elon on Truth Social.”
The late night host argued that the reason Trump might be so angry is because Musk can do some genuine damage if he starts using his money against him.
“Because we have a ridiculous Supreme Court, guys like Elon Musk can spend as much money as they want to support or oppose a candidate in any election, in any place.”
Despite enjoying the growing Musk/Trump rift, Kimmel urged Democrats not to trust Elon Musk going forward.
“The real truth is, Musk is mad about the things that affect him, like cutting the electric vehicle tax credit, not using his company Starlink for air traffic control, and that they pulled his friend’s nomination for head of NASA.”
To any hopeful Democrats hoping to have Musk on their side, Kimmel warned, “what Elon Musk cares about is Elon Musk.”
