Doctors began bringing Joan Rivers out of her medically induced coma Tuesday so that they could assess the extent of brain damage she suffered after she stopped breathing during a throat procedure last week. The 81-year-old comedienne remains on life support at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. A source told the Daily News that Rivers may emerge from the coma in a “vegetative state.”
