Joan Rivers to Be Brought Out of Coma

Doctors began bringing Joan Rivers out of her medically induced coma Tuesday so that they could assess the extent of brain damage she suffered after she stopped breathing during a throat procedure last week. The 81-year-old comedienne remains on life support at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. E!’s Fashion Police had planned to broadcast from New York Fashion Week, which starts this week, but the network said it canceled the special in deference to its hospitalized host. A source told the Daily News that Rivers may emerge from the coma in a “vegetative state.”
