Turns out that Rep. Joe Barton’s apology for his “apology to BP” may not have been so heartfelt: “Joe Barton Was Right,” Barton tweeted while linking to an article that defended him, just hours after House Republicans decided to let him keep his job as the ranking Republican on the Energy and Commerce Committee. “Joe has done the right thing by apologizing—it’s time to move on,” House Minority Leader John Boehner said this morning. The article that Barton tweeted defends his use of the term “shakedown” to describe the $20 billion escrow fund that BP created at Obama’s behest.
