John Galliano Talks Permanent Position With Oscar de la Renta: Following John Galliano's “designer in residence” arrangement with Oscar de la Renta in January, WWD now reports that de la Renta is seriously considering offering a permanent position to Galliano. Alex Bolen, CEO at Oscar de la Renta Inc., released a statement on Wednesday: “As we have said before, we are deeply impressed with John’s talent and would love to find a way to work with him in the future. To date, we have not found that way.” Galliano has already expressed his gratitude and interest in working with de la Renta, telling Charlie Rose that he's “ready to create.” De la Renta himself isn’t ready to go anywhere though: “Am I retiring? Is John going to replace me?” he said in an unsolicited statement back in January when retirement rumors were swirling. “Certainly not. I hope to be around for a long time.” When he is ready for some help though, it looks like Galliano may have a spot waiting for him. [WWD]
Kate Upton's Sports Illustrated Cover Made Her Feel Terrible: Model Kate Upton reveals in Elle's September issue, which she covers, that her famous Sports Illustrated cover made her feel “terrible about [her]self for a solid month.” “Every single guy I met was either married or about to be married, and I felt like I was their bachelor present or something,” she reveals. “I’m not a toy, I’m a human. I’m not here to be used. I am a grown woman, and you need to figure your s--t out.” Upton also laments in the interview the way people view her intelligence because she is a blonde model. “People deal with models like they are children,” she explains. “They think they can pull one over on you. It’s actually funny. I’m always like, I’m about to pull something on you, and you’re so focused on thinking I’m dumb you’re not even going to know.”[Elle]
Fashion Show to be Held Over Grand Canyon: Model turned entrepreneur Jessica Minh Anh is taking the term "high fashion" very literally for her upcoming J Autumn fashion show, which will take place 4,000 feet above the Grand Canyon on November 1. Needless to say, this is an industry first. Anh isn't new to shows like this, though. She has turned the London Tower Bridge and a floating glass boat over the Paris Seine into runways in the past. "We feel the collection reflects our personal style and will connect with the Scandinavian girl." The collection adheres to the Olsen's favorite palette of all black and offers shoppers the chance to get their designs for a low price. [Huffington Post]
