Two Charged in Shooting Death of Off-Duty Chicago Cop
DEVELOPING
Two men have been charged in the fatal Friday night shooting of an off-duty Chicago police officer. Menelik Jackson, 24, and Jovan Battle, 32, have each been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly firing into off-duty officer John Rivera’s car. Another cop, who was critically wounded in the shooting, identified Jackson and Battle. Chicago Police Chief Communications Officer Anthony Guglielmi said Jackson had once applied to be a Chicago police officer and was arrested during his background polygraph for committing an armed home invasion. He was given probation in a plea deal and taken out of the application process.
