A sad day for basketball fans: John Wooden, widely considered the most successful American college basketball coach ever, has passed away at age 99. His tenure at UCLA saw 10 national championships in 12 seasons, from 1964 to 1975. Between 1971 and 1974, UCLA, under Wooden's wing, won 88 consecutive games, still the unmatched record in college basketball. Wooden had been hospitalized since May 26, and he died of natural causes. He is survived by his son, daughter, seven grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
