It looks like Johnny Depp is trying to get past some of the tougher big-budget studio flicks he’s made recently, once again taking on a role that will test him as an actor.
Depp stars as notorious Irish gangster and mass murderer Whitey Bulger in Black Mass, directed by Crazy Heart’s Scott Cooper and due in theaters this September.
In this, the first trailer, we’re given a taste of the Depp performance to come: he is physically transformed, and seems to brilliantly capture Bulger’s charm and icy venom in a single dinner table conversation.
