Johnson Publishing, after operating in Chicago for 71 years, has sold Ebony and Jet, its two historic black lifestyle magazines. They were sold off to a Texas-based private-equity firm. The newly created publishing entity, Ebony Media Operations, will keep its Chicago headquarters and a lot of the current staff. The family-owned publishing firm has struggled in recent years in trying to transition to digital resources.
