A tornado set down in Joplin, Missouri, on Sunday, killing at least 89 people, officials confirmed on Monday morning. The disastrous storm took a path that was a mile wide at some points, and emergencies have been declared on both the state and local level. A local hospital had to be abandoned due to damage and fire; the triage unit set up across the street. A Red Cross worker estimated that 75 percent of Joplin has been destroyed. The tornado was part of a series of storms across the Midwest; one person also died after a tornado set down in Minneapolis.
