Joran van der Sloot was stabbed twice by fellow inmates in a maximum-security prison in Peru, his lawyer said Monday. Van der Sloot is serving a 28-year sentence in Peru’s Challapalca prison for killing Stephany Flores in his hotel room in 2010. He has long been suspected in the disappearance of American teen Natalee Holloway in Aruba in 2005 but was never formally charged. According to van der Sloot’s lawyer, Máximo Altez, prisoners believe Challapalca will be shut down if a high-profile murder is committed. Leidy Figueroa, who van der Sloot married after meeting her in prison, has a bloody shirt of his as apparent evidence of the stabbings.
