Jose Canseco Shoots Off His Finger

Former major league slugger Jose Canseco is recovering after he accidentally shot himself in the hand at his Las Vegas home. Police said Canseco, 50, told them he was cleaning his gun when it went off, shooting a finger on his left hand. He was taken for surgery at University Medical Center of Southern Nevada. TMZ reports that the former baseball star, who was a right-handed outfielder, “blew his middle finger clear off his hand.” The site quoted Canseco’s girfriend saying doctors were trying to save his finger and that even if they did, he would not have full use of it again. Canseco retired in 2001.
