Government loyalists are harassing and detaining foreign journalists in Cairo as the tension between pro- and anti-government protesters heats up. Some reporters and photographers were beaten with sticks and dozens were held by security forces, apparently because the Egyptian government believes they are helping the revolt. Two Fox News employees, including reporter Greg Palkot, had to be hospitalized for their severe injuries. “There is a concerted campaign to intimidate international journalists in Cairo and interfere with their reporting. We condemn such actions," State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said. Two Washington Post employees were among those detained. "We understand that they are safe but in custody and we have made urgent protests to Egyptian authorities in Cairo and Washington," Washington Post Foreign Editor Douglas Jehl said.
