When in Chicago, expect delays. A federal judge has delayed the sentencing of former governor Rod Blagojevich, who was found guilty of 17 of 20 counts of corruption charges in a retrial. Blagojevich’s lawyer said the trial was delayed to avoid “taint[ing] the Cellini jury.” The case was likely delayed because U.S. District Judge James Zagel is also hearing a related corruption case involving millionaire power broker William Cellini. Blagojevich is the fourth governor from the state of Illinois to be convicted of crimes. He was accused of using President Obama’s old Senate seat as a bartering chip.
