A federal judge signed a gag order on Wednesday in the criminal case against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his longtime business associate, Rick Gates. Under the order, prosecutors and defense lawyers are barred from making statements to the news media “or in public settings that pose a substantial likelihood of material prejudice to this case.” U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson said the order is intended to guarantee that Manafort and Gates are able to have a fair trial. It was announced last week that the two were indicted on twelve counts related to the investigation into Russian meddling in the U.S. election.
