A jury on Friday awarded Hulk Hogan $115 million in damages for Gawker’s decision to post a video of the celebrity ex-wrestler having sex. Reports say that Hogan broke down in tears when the verdict was read. The jury, composed of four women and two men, took six hours to deliberate the invasion of privacy suit.
Gawker is expected to appeal the decision. “Given key evidence and the most important witness were both improperly withheld from this jury, we all knew the appeals court will need to resolve the case,” Gawker founder Nick Denton wrote in a statement following the verdict’s announcement.
The trial took place over the course of two weeks and at times took strange turns, including a discussion of the length of Hogan’s penis.
