Chicago to File Civil Suit Against Jussie Smollett After He Failed to Pay $130K
NOT OVER YET
The city of Chicago is taking Empire star Jussie Smollett to civil court after he failed to pay $130,000 to the city for the police probe into his allegedly false police report, the New York Daily News reports. Chicago Department of Law spokesman Bill McCaffrey told the Daily News the department would be drafting a civil complaint against Smollett and intends to file it in the Circuit Court of Cook County soon. “As part of this legal action, the Law Department will pursue the full measure of damages allowed under the ordinance,” McCaffrey wrote. Last week, the city reportedly demanded the actor pay $130,000 to cover the cost of the investigation into a racial and homophobic attack against him that he allegedly staged. Smollett was charged with 16 counts of disorderly conduct after he allegedly filed a false police report about the attack, but the charges were dropped.
