The Justice Department denies that it intentionally misled Congress with regard to Operation Fast and Furious, the controversial drug-trafficking investigation that, it was revealed, actually allowed the transfer of some guns in and out of the U.S. and even lost track of weapons. A February letter acknowledges that Justice’s initial claim that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives “makes every effort to interdict weapons that have been purchased illegally and prevent their transportation to Mexico” may have been misleading, but the department insists it was not written that way intentionally.
