Justin Timberlake's Illegal Voting Selfie ‘Under Review’

Tennessee law prohibits photos within polling stations.

Justin Timberlake just wanted to urge his 37 million Instagram followers to follow his lead of vote in this year's election. But the pop star and actor unwittingly violated Tennessee law in the process. "I just flew from LA to Memphis to #rockthevote," Timberlake wrote next to a photo of himself casting his early vote on Monday. "No excuses, my good people! There could be early voting in your town too. If not, November 8th! Choose to have a voice! If you don't, then we can't HEAR YOU! Get out and VOTE!" By doing so, he broke a law that prohibits voters from using their phones to communicate or record images within polling locations.

“The Shelby County DA’s office was made aware of a possible violation of state election law,” the Shelby County DA’s office said in a statement. “The matter is under review of the DA’s office. The law itself TCA2-7-142(B). The offense is a state class C misdemeanor. Any person convicted of this violation could be sentenced up to 30 days or fined no more than $50 or both.” About 20 hours after Timberlake posted the photo, it remains live on his Instagram account.
