DNC Chairman Tim Kaine confirmed speculation on Tuesday by officially announcing a run for Virginia’s Senate seat. Kaine is hoping to succeed Democratic Sen. Jim Webb, who is retiring after one term. In an online video, the former governor of Virginia makes no mention of his time at the DNC. Kaine’s decision also leaves an opening for a new DNC chairman as President Obama readies his re-election campaign and Democrats gear up to protect their seats in Congress. Those being considered to replace Kaine include former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Illinois Senator Richard Durbin.
