Former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic insisted he is innocent of war crimes as he took the stand in his defense at his trial at The Hague on Tuesday. “Instead of being accused, I should have been rewarded for all the good things I have done,” Karadzic said. He insisted he is a “tolerant man with a great capacity to understand others.” He faces 10 charges of genocide war crimes and crimes against humanity for his alleged role in the Bosnian war in the 1990s, including the 1995 massacre at Srebrenica and 44-month siege of Sarajevo. Karadzic, 67, is defending himself. He was arrested in 2008 in Belgrade after 13 years on the run.
