Karoline Leavitt appears to have used AI-generated content in a statement announcing her departure from the White House.
Leavitt, 28, shared a lengthy statement on X on Wednesday confirming that she would be leaving her role as the White House press secretary at the end of the month, including two photos of herself alongside President Donald Trump. The post included a “Made with AI” tag.
The first photo, which showed Trump and Leavitt speaking to the press outside the White House, appeared to be the AI culprit, as Leavitt’s appearance seemed slightly altered.
Her hair, face, chest, and waist all appeared modified compared to a similar photo taken by Getty Images staff photographer Anna Moneymaker on July 15, 2025. Her hair appeared fuller, her cheekbones higher, her chin narrower, her waist slimmed, and her chest enlarged.
The Daily Beast has reached out to the White House for clarity on what exactly in Leavitt’s post was AI-generated.
Leavitt, who had her second child in May, explained in the statement that “being a mother and welcoming a new baby while working in one of the most demanding jobs in the world has been the most rewarding yet challenging season of my life, to say the least.”
“I will always remain a vocal advocate for MAGA and the Republican Party,” she added.
Trump, 80, had announced her departure shortly before on Truth Social, saying that it was “so she can spend more time with her beautiful young children and family, a decision I totally understand and respect!”
The president said Leavitt was “one of the best White House Press Secretaries in the History of the Office” and that she would remain as one of his “top outside advisors, and an influential voice within the Republican Party.”
Leavitt’s exit as the White House’s youngest-ever press secretary marks yet another woman gone from Trump’s inner circle. The unsuccessful New Hampshire congressional candidate joins former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, former Attorney General Pam Bondi, former Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, and former DNI Director Tulsi Gabbard.
She is married to 60-year-old real estate developer Nicolas Riccio, with whom she shares two children: Niko, who was born in 2024, and Viviana, who was born in May.
