John Kasich has evolved on gay marriage, kind of.
When Fox News host Megyn Kelly asked the Ohio governor how, if he were to have a child who is gay, he would explain his opposition to same-sex marriage to the child, he gave a rather surprising answer.
Kasich initially said he was old-fashioned and defended his personal opposition to same-sex marriage while insisting he was willing to accept friends and family who are gay.
He added that he had even recently attended a gay friend’s wedding—a remark that drew applause from the Ohio crowd.
“I’m going to love my daughters no matter what they do,” Kasich said. “God gave me unconditional love, and I’m going to love them.”
Unlike other candidates, who have threatened to find a way to overturn the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on same-sex marriage, Kasich said he would “accept” the court’s decision.
