Kate Middleton, Marc Jacobs, and More Inspired by 2014’s Color of the Year—Radiant Orchid

Pantone has officially announced 'Radiant Orchid' as the 2014 Color of the Year. The bright shade of purple—described as "captivating, magical, and enigmatic"—calls for confidence, joy, health, and love, and "encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.” The color, which occupies the space on the color wheel opposite 2013's winner, emerald, is meant to be flattering on all skin tones and can easily permeate fashion, beauty, and interior design. While 'Radiant Orchid' may be designated as a 2014 trend, the past year saw the shade of purple beginning to appear on runways and red carpets. From the dress Kate Middleton wore in Prince George's official royal portrait to Jennifer Garner's Oscar gown, a look at how the color of the year has already been (and will continue to be) influencing style everywhere.

FLOTUS is on trend, as usual. The First Lady arrived at Dallas Love Field Airport in April wearing a dress in Pantone's 2014 hue, topped with a black cardigan and belt. This wasn't her first time sporting 'Radiant Orchid,' however. It seems that the pinkish-purple hue is one of M'Obama's favorite colors to wear.

Musical diva Mariah Carey kept her travel-wear on point, rocking an orchid-colored, cotton dress through Heathrow Airport.
