Katie Couric is one step closer to becoming the new Oprah: TMZ says Couric is near a $20 million deal with ABC to host a daily, one-hour syndicated talk show beginning in September 2012; report news specials for 20/20; and even do fill-in anchoring. The development comes after talks for Couric to remain at CBS for a syndicated talk show broke down. TMZ also says that Matt Lauer will not be a part of Couric’s show and that General Hospital may be canceled to make room for it.
