President Trump may not have come up with a catchy nickname for Sen. Cory Booker yet, but his most loyal spokesperson has already developed a truly bizarre attack on the New Jersey Democrat.
Shortly after Booker announced his expected entrance into the 2020 presidential race, Kellyanne Conway went on Fox & Friends and delivered her assessment of his chances in the Democratic primary.
“I would ask him a couple questions today as he runs from my native New Jersey,” Conway said. “One is, what is wrong with the candidates that are already in there? What is your objection to Kamala Harris running, Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand, these others who have already announced, Tulsi Gabbard maybe?”
“If he were a Republican running against them, they immediately would call him a sexist for running against these women in the Democratic field,” Conway added. That line was greeted with a stifled chuckle from guest host Ed Henry. Nobody asked her who she meant by “they.”
Conway went on to attack Booker by quoting former Obama adviser David Axelrod, who told CNN earlier in the morning that the senator “can sort of move from being an inspirational figure to kind of a motivational speaker and sometimes it comes off a little tinny, so that’s a discipline that he’s going to have to deal with.”
Like The View’s Meghan McCain, Conway drew attention to Booker’s now infamous “I am Spartacus” moment during the first set of Supreme Court confirmation hearings with Brett Kavanaugh. Booker defended his dramatic stand, calling it one of his “prouder moments” in the Senate.
