Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin filed a lawsuit Thursday against Planned Parenthood for operating a facility at which he alleges 23 illegal abortions were performed in December and January. Planned Parenthood has suspended abortions for the moment as it attempts to resolve a dispute with the governor over its attempts to get a license for a new clinic in the state. The governor’s lawsuit contends that the organization can be fined anywhere from $500 to $10,000 a day for the violations. Planned Parenthood claims the abortions performed were legal and were offered on instruction from the state’s Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
