Patrick Makau of Kenya set a world record Sunday at the Berlin Marathon, finishing in a time of 2 hours, 3 minutes and 38 seconds. The 26-year-old runner has won the race in back-to-back years and is now the second man to run a 26.2-mile marathon under 2:04. The previous record was set by Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia on the same Berlin course in 2008. Kenya swept the day in Berlin, with Florence Kiplagat winning the women's race in 2:19:44.
