Faced with missing payments and busy phone lines at unemployment offices, an exploding number of r/unemployment users are trying to patch the holes in an overburdened safety net.

“Question, are your rosy predictions based on economic reality or the November election?” Chris Wallace asked. “My numbers aren’t rosy,” Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin replied.
“We’re preparing to reopen the economy,” Larry Kudlow told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, predicting “a very strong second half of the year. Probably 20 percent economic growth.”
The president was on his call with “Fox & Friends” when news came through that over 20 million jobs were lost last month.
As coronavirus-related unemployment topped 30 million and governors eased lockdowns, some workers couldn’t help suspecting the delay in benefits was the point.
“There’s been no testing here, really. So having people go into an environment where it could spark back up again… It just doesn’t make any sense.”
