Khizr Khan to Congress: Reject ‘Anti-Muslim’ Jeff Sessions
He fails “the most minimal standard.”

Khizr Khan, the Gold Star father who denounced Donald Trump during the Democratic National Convention, asked Congress not to confirm Sen. Jeff Sessions as attorney general. Sessions, Trump’s pick for top lawyer, has long faced opposition from civil-rights groups for his alleged prejudices. In 1986, a bipartisan Senate committee blocked him from a federal judgeship over concerns that Sessions had made racist remarks that disqualified him for the post. “I urge you to think beyond partisan politics as you consider this nomination,” Khan wrote the Senate Judiciary Committee in a letter released Monday. “Thirty years ago, a bipartisan group of senators rejected Mr. Sessions' nomination to be a federal judge. His record since then does not give us any reason to believe that those senators were in error... The most minimal standard for leading the Department of Justice must be a demonstrated commitment to pursuing justice for all Americans. Mr. Sessions fails to meet that standard.”
