Kim Clijsters Wins Australian Open

When Kim Clijsters came back, she was back to stay: the Belgian star won her second Grand Slam title in a row in Australia, defeating China's Li Na 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the women's singles final. Clijsters won her fourth all-time Grand Slam and prevented Li from winning her first. It was a crushing disappointment for Li, who saved a match point to win her semi-final match and would have been the first Asian player to win a Grand Slam singles title. Her run at the Australian Open created huge excitement in China, with record-breaking television audiences watching her matches. "Li and I have played some amazing matches over a number of years—she's a tough competitor," Clijsters said.
