Another day, another barking mad brouhaha surrounding South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem’s forthcoming memoir. First came its revelations about her shooting her pet dog Cricket to death. Then came doubts about a supposed meeting with North Korean despot Kim Jong Un. Now a juicy anecdote involving Nikki Haley is being called into question. According to Politico, Noem writes about a call she says she received from the former U.N. ambassador in the summer of 2021 which Noem interpreted as possibly being a threat. “It was clear that she wanted me to know that there was only room for one Republican woman in the spotlight,” Noem writes that she told her assistant of the call. Chaney Denton, a spokesperson for Haley, said the two women had spoken but it was in 2020, not 2021. “She called Governor Noem in 2020 to encourage her when she was criticized for keeping her state open during Covid,” Denton said. “How she would twist that into a threat is just plain weird.”
