Kurds Take Mt. Sinjar From ISIS

    Reuters

A two-day offensive involving 8,000 Kurdish pesh merga fighters has succeeded in recapturing a significant amount of territory from ISIS, breaking its hold on land between the autonomous Kurdish region and the Syrian border. It also managed to break the siege of Mount Sinjar where thousands of Yazidis were trapped and facing death this summer. A statement from the Kurdistan Regional Security Council called the battle “the single biggest military offensive against ISIS, and the most successful.” It was backed up by 53 airstrikes from the American-led coalition.
